The WeTransfer free limit is 10 transfers or 3 GB in total in any rolling 30-day window, according to WeTransfer's help centre (updated 23 October 2026). There's no daily limit and no reset on the 1st of the month: each transfer stops counting 30 days after you send it.
The short answer
- Hit either number and you're stuck until older sends pass 30 days, unless you upgrade.
- Free links last up to 3 days, and sending needs a WeTransfer account with a verified email.
- Starter raises the total to 300 GB but keeps the 10-transfer count. Ultimate has unlimited transfers.
- Out of allowance? Wait, upgrade, use another upload service, or send it live with Beamaroo if the other person is online now.
Is there a WeTransfer daily limit?
No. There's no WeTransfer limit per day: it doesn't count by the day at all. Its plan limits page says the Free plan lets you “send up to 10 transfers (or 3 GB total) in any 30-day rolling window”, and that the limit is “calculated based on the transfers you've sent in the last 30 days — not a fixed calendar month” (WeTransfer help centre, updated 23 October 2026).
So the question is never how much you've sent today. It's how much you've sent in the last 30 days. Other apps count differently; see file size limits by app.
When does the WeTransfer free limit reset?
There's no single reset date. Each transfer stops counting 30 days after you sent it, so the allowance comes back in pieces. WeTransfer's own example: send 2 transfers on the 1st and 8 more on the 15th, and you get 2 slots back on the 1st of the next month and 8 more on the 15th. Here's the same idea with gigabytes.
| Date | What happens | Allowance left |
|---|---|---|
| 3 October | You send 4 transfers totalling 1.2 GB | 6 transfers, 1.8 GB |
| 20 October | You send 1 transfer of 1.5 GB | 5 transfers, 0.3 GB |
| 25 October | A 500 MB transfer won't fit (you've used 2.7 GB) | 5 transfers, 0.3 GB |
| 2 November | The 3 October transfers drop out | 9 transfers, 1.5 GB |
| 19 November | The 20 October transfer drops out | 10 transfers, 3 GB: the full allowance |
To see what you have left, hover over your account email in the top-right corner of the WeTransfer website, or open the Transfers tab and look under Sent.
What to do when you hit the WeTransfer limit
You have five realistic options. Which one fits depends on how big the file is and whether the other person can download it later.
Wait for your oldest transfer to drop out
Check the date of your oldest send in the last 30 days. Its slot, and its share of the 3 GB, comes back 30 days after you sent it.
Pay for a bigger plan
WeTransfer's own suggestion when you reach the limit is Ultimate, which has unlimited transfers. If it's the gigabytes rather than the count that stop you, Starter lifts the total to 300 GB but keeps the 10-transfer limit. Check WeTransfer's site for current prices.
Use another upload service
Other services have their own free allowances. As of October 2026, SwissTransfer takes up to 50 GB per transfer for up to 30 days with no registration, Smash needs no sign-up and sends transfers up to 2 GB without queueing, and FileTransfer.io takes packages up to 4 GB for 21 days (our FileTransfer.io comparison). All three keep a copy of your files on their servers, which is what lets the other person download later.
On an iPhone, iPad or Mac, try Mail Drop
Apple's Mail Drop sends attachments up to 5 GB through iCloud, and the recipient has 30 days to download them (Apple). It works from Mail on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and from iCloud.com on a Mac or PC.
Send it live with Beamaroo
If the other person is online right now, you can skip uploading altogether. Beamaroo sends files straight from your browser to theirs, end-to-end encrypted, with no account on either side and no monthly quota. It isn't a like-for-like WeTransfer replacement: both devices must stay online until it finishes, it's one sender to one receiver, and the receiving browser holds files in memory, so phones are comfortable up to a few hundred MB and computers up to about 1–2 GB. For a 3 GB video that someone will download tomorrow, an upload service is the better tool; our guide to sending large files covers both routes, and the WeTransfer alternative comparison goes through the trade-offs.
Hit the limit? Send it straight to their device
Open this page on both devices, pick files on one and type the code on the other. No account, no upload, no monthly quota. You both need to stay online, and phones are comfortable up to a few hundred MB, computers up to about 1–2 GB.

What counts towards the 10 transfers and 3 GB
- Transfers you send. WeTransfer counts “the transfers you've sent in the last 30 days”, so downloading a transfer someone sent you doesn't use your allowance.
- Both numbers, together. It's 10 transfers or 3 GB in total, so one 3 GB transfer and ten tiny ones each use up the whole allowance.
- Recipients don't multiply it. Free accounts can email one transfer to up to 10 people (WeTransfer), and it's still one transfer.
- Bundling saves slots, not gigabytes. Several files in one transfer count once towards the 10, but every megabyte still counts towards the 3 GB.
- Deleting may not give it back. The help centre doesn't say whether deleting a transfer returns its slot, so don't count on it.
WeTransfer Free vs Starter vs Ultimate limits
Starter is for people who send big files now and then: the same 10-transfer count as Free, with 300 GB instead of 3 GB. If the count is your problem, Starter doesn't help; Ultimate removes it. Teams and Enterprise sit above Ultimate.
| Limit | Free | Starter | Ultimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transfers per rolling 30 days | 10 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Total data per rolling 30 days | 3 GB | 300 GB | No total listed |

How WeTransfer's free plan has changed since 2024
WeTransfer's free plan has changed several times since Bending Spoons bought the company in July 2024. The cap was announced as monthly and is now described as a rolling 30 days. Older articles still quote 2 GB per transfer, 7-day links or sending without an account, so check the date on anything you read.
| When | What changed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| July 2024 | Bending Spoons buys WeTransfer, and in September plans to cut about 75% of staff | TechCrunch |
| August 2024 | Free links default to 3 days. In TechCrunch's testing, free users could extend a link to 7 days in the app | TechCrunch |
| November 2024 | An account becomes compulsory for sending | WeTransfer |
| Mid-December 2024 | Free plan gets a monthly cap of 10 transfers and 3 GB of files, and its file size limit rises from 2 GB to 3 GB. Starter arrives with 300 GB, and Pro and Premium merge into Ultimate | WeTransfer blog |
| By October 2026 | The help centre describes the free cap as 10 transfers or 3 GB in total per rolling 30 days, with links lasting up to 3 days | WeTransfer |

Questions
Is WeTransfer still free?
Yes. The Free plan still exists, but as of October 2026 you need an account to send, and it allows 10 transfers or 3 GB in total in any rolling 30 days. Free links stay up for up to 3 days.
What is WeTransfer's daily limit?
There isn't one. The free limit runs over a rolling 30 days: 10 transfers or 3 GB in total. You could use the lot in one afternoon, then wait for those transfers to pass 30 days.
How do I reset my WeTransfer limit?
WeTransfer's help centre doesn't describe a manual reset. Each transfer's slot and gigabytes come back 30 days after you sent it, and if you can't wait, WeTransfer points you to its Ultimate plan.
Why does WeTransfer need my email to send?
Since November 2024 every sender needs a WeTransfer account, which WeTransfer says improves security and helps you manage your transfers. If you're not logged in, it emails you a verification code, and entering it creates a free account if you don't already have one.
How long do free WeTransfer links last?
Up to 3 days from the moment the transfer is sent, on both Free and Starter. After that, WeTransfer says files from transfers that can't be recovered (recovery is an Ultimate, Teams and Enterprise feature) are permanently deleted within 48 hours.
Can I send more than 3 GB on WeTransfer for free?
Not within one rolling 30-day window, because 3 GB is the Free plan's total. Starter raises it to 300 GB, or a free service with a bigger allowance can take it: SwissTransfer allows 50 GB per transfer as of October 2026.
Does receiving a WeTransfer count towards my limit?
No. WeTransfer calculates the limit from the transfers you've sent in the last 30 days, and recipients don't need an account to download.
