Xender Web's website mode is closed. Here's how to move files between phone and PC now

Since early 2021, web.xender.com has shown the same notice: “Website mode is closed”. Here's what Xender suggests instead, what else works, and how to do it in a browser with nothing to install on either device.

Xender Web, the website at web.xender.com, is closed. Since early 2021 the page has shown “Website mode is closed” instead of a QR code, so the problem isn't your browser, your phone or your Wi-Fi. Xender now points PC users to Direct Mode, where the computer joins your phone's hotspot and opens a local address from the Xender app in its browser, or to its Windows and Mac apps. If you'd rather install nothing on either device, Beamaroo moves files between a phone and a PC in the browser, as long as both devices are online.

The short answer

  • The Xender Web website is closed. In January 2021, web.xender.com said it would close “within 1 month”. By March 2021 it read “Website mode is closed”, and it still did on 31 October 2026.
  • There's nothing to fix on your end. The page has no QR code, login or connect button any more, so a different browser or a cleared cache won't bring it back.
  • Xender's own route is Direct Mode: turn on your phone's hotspot, connect the PC to it, then type the 192.168… address the Xender app shows into the PC's browser. No internet needed. Xender also offers Windows and Mac apps on xender.com.
  • Nothing to install: Beamaroo pairs a phone and a PC in the browser with a one-time code or QR code. It needs internet on both devices, and phones are comfortable up to a few hundred MB per transfer.

What happened to Xender Web (web.xender.com)?

Xender's PC connection dates back to Xender 3.0 in June 2015. Its Connect PC feature linked a phone to a PC, Mac or Chromebook, usually by scanning a QR code, with no software to install on the computer, and an offline mode worked with no internet at all (Xender 3.0 announcement). It ran in the computer's browser. As Xender put it a few months later, “Just by using the browser, users can connect their phone to a PC, transfer files both ways” (PR Newswire, September 2015). The online version lived at web.xender.com, under the name Xender Web.

In early 2021 Xender switched it off. Archived copies of the page show the timeline:

DateWhat web.xender.com said
3 January 2021“This website will be closed within 1 month. Please update to latest version Xender to use our ‘Direct Mode’ (Data Free)” (archived copy)
28 March 2021“Website mode is closed. Please setup Hotspot on your phone, and connect your PC to it (this Direct Mode is Data-FREE)” (archived copy)
31 October 2026The same notice, word for word, when we checked the live page
Archived copies from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Captures from 2022, 2023, 2025 and March 2026 show the same notice.

What closed was the website, not Xender's PC connection. The picture guide under the notice shows Direct Mode, where the PC joins your phone's hotspot and opens an address from the Xender app in a browser tab labelled Xender Web (steps below). Xender also has desktop apps for Windows and Mac, from the download buttons on xender.com.

Xender Web not working? Why there's no QR code to scan

If web.xender.com gives you no QR code, no login and nothing to connect, the page is working exactly as Xender left it. There's nothing to fix on your side:

  • It isn't your browser. The page is now a single static notice with no scripts, so every browser shows the same thing. Clearing the cache or going incognito won't change it.
  • There's no login. If you went looking for a Xender Web login page, there isn't one any more. The notice is all that's left.
  • There's no code for your phone to scan. The QR code that older guides mention isn't on the page. The picture under the notice is a three-step hotspot guide, not a code.
  • Looking for the Xender Web IP address? That's Direct Mode. Once your PC has joined your phone's hotspot, the Xender app on the phone shows an address starting with 192.168, and you type it into the PC's browser.
  • Guides that say “open web.xender.com and scan the code” are out of date. Several pages that still come up for these searches describe the site as it was before 2021.
  • Be careful with “Xender Web for PC” downloads. If you want Xender on a computer, use the Windows or Mac button on xender.com rather than a third-party download site.

Send files between phone and PC in a browser instead

If you'd rather not install Xender on your phone, or your PC can't join the phone's hotspot, use a browser on both ends. Beamaroo works that way: open beamaroo.com on the phone and the computer, and the files travel directly between the two browsers, encrypted, without being uploaded or stored. There's no app and no account. On an iPhone the steps are the same, and our iPhone to PC guide covers the extra details.

One big difference from Xender: both devices need an internet connection, because Beamaroo's server introduces them before the files flow. Each code works once, for one receiving device, and expires after 30 minutes (how the pairing works).

Phone to PC

  1. On your phone, open beamaroo.com, tap to choose photos, videos or documents, then tap Get a code.
  2. On the PC, open beamaroo.com, click Receive, type the code (it looks like beam-7-otter-quartz) and click Receive again. Or tap Share… on the phone and send yourself the link.
  3. Check the number of files and the total size, then click Accept. Files save like any browser download, usually to Downloads. If several arrive and only one saves, click Save all.
  4. Keep the phone's screen on until it shows Delivered ✔, which means every file was checked on the PC.

PC to phone

  1. On the PC, open beamaroo.com, drop in the files and click Get a code. A QR code appears with the code.
  2. Point your phone's camera at the QR code and open the link. Beamaroo opens with the code filled in, so just tap Receive.
  3. Tap Accept. On Android, Chrome saves to your default download location, listed under Downloads in Chrome's menu (Google). On an iPhone, look in the Downloads folder of the Files app (Apple).
  4. The PC shows Delivered ✔ once your phone has checked every file.

Try it: phone to PC, nothing to install

Open beamaroo.com on your phone and your computer. Pick files on one, then enter the code or scan the QR code on the other. Both need to be online.

Drop files here, or click to choose

Files stay on this device until the other side accepts.

Other Xender Web alternatives for phone to PC

Beamaroo isn't the only Xender alternative for PC, and for some jobs it isn't the best one. Here's what else works in 2026, and what each one needs.

Xender Direct Mode (your phone's hotspot)

This is Xender's own replacement for the website. Only the phone needs Xender: the PC joins your phone's hotspot and uses its browser. Xender calls Direct Mode data-free, and it doesn't need an internet connection. The catches: the PC needs Wi-Fi, has to stay within range of your phone's hotspot, and drops off its usual Wi-Fi network while it's joined. The steps, from the picture guide on web.xender.com:

  1. Turn on your phone's mobile hotspot.
  2. Connect the PC to that hotspot.
  3. In the Xender app on your phone, find the address that starts with 192.168, then type it into the PC's browser.

Xender's Windows and Mac apps

xender.com has download buttons for Windows and Mac. Xender's support page says it transfers files between Android, iOS, Windows and Mac (Xender support), and its Google Play listing promises “Cross-Platform Connect & Share: Connect to Windows PC, Mac” (Google Play). If you go this way, download the installer from xender.com itself.

AirDroid Web

The nearest match to the old Xender Web: install AirDroid Personal on your Android phone and sign in to an AirDroid account, open web.airdroid.com on the computer, then scan its QR code with the app (AirDroid's guide). On the same local network, the free plan doesn't cap transfers. Across networks, it allows 30 MB per file and 200 MB of remote data a month (AirDroid), and Premium costs US$3.99 a month or US$29.99 a year (AirDroid pricing, October 2026).

Quick Share for Windows (Android phones)

Google's Quick Share is available on Android 6 and later and reaches select Windows PCs through Google's Quick Share for Windows app (Google). The phone and PC need to be close: within Bluetooth range, with Wi-Fi on (Android).

A USB cable

A cable needs no internet and no hotspot, and it's the sensible route for a folder full of movies. Our phone to PC guide covers cables, Phone Link and the other built-in options.

Xender Direct Mode vs Beamaroo for phone-to-PC transfers

When Xender is still the better choice

Stick with Xender, or another hotspot app, when:

  • There's no internet at all. Direct Mode needs no connection and no data. Beamaroo needs both devices online.
  • You're moving a full-length movie to a phone. Beamaroo holds incoming files in the phone browser's memory, so phones are comfortable only to a few hundred MB.
  • You want to share installed apps or copy an old phone to a new one. Beamaroo sends files only.
  • You're sending a whole folder. In Beamaroo you'd zip it first or select the files inside.
  • Xender is already on your phone and the PC is right next to it. There's little to gain from switching.

Beamaroo is the better fit when you don't want Xender and its ads on your phone, when the PC has no Wi-Fi or can't leave its own network, when the devices are in different places, when one of them is an iPhone and you don't want another app, or when you want proof that every file arrived intact.

Mobile data, file size and keeping the screen on

  • Mobile data. With both devices on the same Wi-Fi, the transfer normally runs directly over that network, and your phone isn't using mobile data while it's on Wi-Fi. If the phone is on mobile data, the files travel over it and use roughly their own size in data.
  • File size. There's no fixed cap, but the receiving browser holds files in memory until they're saved. Phones are comfortable up to a few hundred MB (Beamaroo warns above 300 MB on a phone) and computers up to about 1–2 GB. Multi-gigabyte transfers can fail, especially to an iPhone. For bigger jobs, see how to send large video files.
  • Screen on. Keep the browser open and the screen awake until it says Delivered. Locking the phone or switching apps can stall a transfer, and there's no resume: you'd start again.
  • Folders. Zip a folder first, or select the files inside it. Many files at once are fine.
  • One receiver per code. Each code pairs one sender with one receiver, once.

Questions

Is Xender Web still working?

Not as a website. web.xender.com has shown “Website mode is closed” since early 2021, with no QR code or login, and it still did when we checked on 31 October 2026. Xender now points you to Direct Mode, which connects your PC to the Xender app over your phone's hotspot.

How do I connect Xender to my PC now?

Turn on your phone's hotspot, connect the PC to it, then type the 192.168… address shown in the Xender app into the PC's browser. Xender calls this Direct Mode. You can also install Xender's Windows or Mac app from xender.com. To install nothing on either device, open beamaroo.com on both instead.

Can I send files from my phone to my laptop without installing any app?

Yes. Open beamaroo.com on the phone and the laptop, choose files on one, enter the code on the other and tap Accept. Both devices need to be online at the same time.

Does Beamaroo work without internet like Xender?

No. Both devices need an internet connection. With no internet, use Xender's Direct Mode, a USB cable, or LocalSend on a shared Wi-Fi network.

Will it use my mobile data?

Not while your phone is on Wi-Fi. With both devices on the same Wi-Fi, the transfer normally runs directly over that network. On mobile data, it uses roughly as much data as the files' size.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no fixed cap, but phones are comfortable up to a few hundred MB per transfer and computers up to about 1–2 GB, because the receiving browser holds files in memory until they're saved. Xender says it has no file size limit, so it suits full-length movies better.

Is Xender available in India?

Partly. Xender was one of 59 apps India blocked on 29 June 2020. In February 2025 its iPhone app was reported back on Apple's App Store in India, and it was still listed there on 31 October 2026, though we found no official word that the block was lifted. We couldn't find its Android app on Google Play's India storefront. SHAREit, blocked the same day, still isn't back on Apple's India store: see SHAREit alternatives.
